ℹ️
TapeVault is desktop software that runs fully offline after license activation. We collect the minimum data necessary to sell, activate, and support the product — we do not track your browsing or profile you for advertising.

1. Data controller

The data controller responsible for your personal data is:

주식회사 베테랑아이티 (Veteran IT Co., Ltd.)
Seocho-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea
Email: support@tapevault.net

For all privacy questions, requests, or complaints, contact us using the details above or in Section 13.

2. Data we collect

We collect different data depending on how you interact with us:

ContextData collected
Visiting tapevault.netStandard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited, referrer, timestamp) generated automatically by our hosting provider (GitHub Pages). We do not run analytics or advertising scripts on this site.
Contacting us by emailYour email address, name (if provided), and the content of your message.
Purchasing a licenseName, email, billing address, and payment details — collected and processed directly by Paddle.com Market Ltd. ("Paddle"), our authorized payment processor and Merchant of Record. We never receive or store your full card number.
Activating or using TapeVaultLicense key, a hardware fingerprint used to bind the license to one computer, application version, and activation/deactivation timestamps. The catalog database, thumbnails, and file metadata TapeVault creates while you use it are stored locally on your computer only and are never transmitted to us.
Support requestsAny information you voluntarily provide (e.g. screenshots, log files, description of the issue) to help us resolve your request.

3. How we use your data

  • To provide, activate, and license the TapeVault software you purchased
  • To process payments and issue receipts (via Paddle)
  • To respond to support and sales inquiries
  • To send license-related notices (e.g. trial expiry reminders, renewal reminders — TapeVault has no automatic renewal)
  • To detect and prevent fraud, license abuse, or security incidents
  • To comply with legal and tax obligations

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

4. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

For visitors and customers in the EU/EEA and UK, we rely on the following legal bases under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Contract — processing necessary to sell you a license and provide the software and support you requested
  • Legitimate interest — securing our systems, preventing license fraud, and improving support quality
  • Legal obligation — retaining invoices and tax records as required by law
  • Consent — where you voluntarily contact us or opt in to optional communications

5. Cookies and tracking

tapevault.net itself does not set cookies and does not use analytics, advertising, or tracking pixels. If you proceed to purchase, you will be redirected to a checkout page hosted by Paddle, which sets its own cookies for fraud prevention and payment processing. See Paddle's Privacy Policy for details on that processing.

6. Sharing with third parties

We share personal data only with the following categories of recipients, and only as needed to operate our business:

  • Paddle.com Market Ltd. — payment processing and billing, acting as Merchant of Record and independent data controller for payment data
  • GitHub, Inc. — hosting of this website and software installer downloads
  • Email service providers — for sending support replies and license notices
  • Legal or regulatory authorities — where required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights

We do not share personal data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

7. International data transfers

Veteran IT Co., Ltd. is based in the Republic of Korea. If you are located in the EU/EEA, UK, or elsewhere outside Korea, your data may be transferred to and processed in Korea and in the countries where our processors (such as Paddle and GitHub) operate, including the United States and United Kingdom. Where required, such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards, including standard contractual clauses used by our processors.

8. Data retention

  • Support emails are retained for as long as needed to resolve your request, then archived for up to 3 years for quality and legal purposes
  • License and activation records are retained for the duration of your license plus a reasonable period afterward for support and fraud-prevention purposes
  • Billing records held by Paddle are retained per Paddle's own retention policy and applicable tax law (typically 5–10 years)
  • Data you store locally in your TapeVault catalog database remains entirely under your control and is deleted when you delete it

9. Your rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the EU/EEA or UK, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Erase your personal data ("right to be forgotten"), subject to legal retention requirements
  • Restrict or object to certain processing
  • Data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority

To exercise any of these rights, email support@tapevault.net. We will respond within 30 days. For payment data held by Paddle, you may also contact Paddle directly.

10. Data security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) for our website, and reliance on PCI-DSS-compliant payment processing through Paddle. No system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of data transmitted to us.

11. Children's privacy

TapeVault is business software intended for professional archive and broadcast environments. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of our website or software after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
